- With Firewire you can undertake video transfer to both Windows and Mac computers. All you need to do is plug your camera into the Firewire port of your computer and your camera will be detected automatically. This is unlike other video capture cards where you would need to install software. Drivers to enable video capturing.
Stoik Capturer video software is an all-in-one screen captureprogram that lets you take screenshots fast. Capture streaming video to AVI or WMV with selected codec or profile. Option to capture video through temporary file (direct from capture devices without recompression) to avoid drop frames during recompression. For the moment, though, let’s assume that you have a Mac with FireWire and a FireWire–capable camcorder. Proceed with the following steps: Connect one end of the FireWire cable to your camcorder and the other to an available FireWire port on the Mac. Switch the camcorder to VTR (shorthand for video tape recorder) mode.

Firewire Capture Software Mac
This free tool may have saved me hundreds of dollars. My computer crashed a few days ago and the C drive went with it. After getting up and running, I found that I could no longer capture with ANY capure program. After checking ilink cable, camera, drivers, etc., I was resigned to getting a new computer. As a last resort I tried this DVIO and it is the only thing that will capture! The only major difference I can see is that it has no preview screen, which is probably what's killing the other apps! I say all this for the benefit of anyone else having similar problems. I'm going to check to see if the author is taking donations.

I've been using WinDV with my Datavideo DAC-100 transfer box. Never noticed any prob with short caps.
Suddenly, with long caps, WinDV goofs up with it and has a incompatibility problem by adding deafening clicks drowning out all audio...at least with my setup.
I had rented a camera to run off tapes over the weekend. When WinDV stopped (and I tried everything I know to get it going again), this thing saved the day. I was back capping in no time with DVIO.
Gave it a nine because there's no video or audio preview screen.

This is a great basic program to capture video from a digital video (DV) camera (or vice versa). I am amazed that it is only 32K and it is FREE!
Although I like this program, I would recommend WinDV over this since it has a few more options.

USB Video Class (UVC) Cameras
Free Video Capture Software Download
Any USB Video Class (UVC) camera should work in Debut. Mac OS X has had native support for UVC devices since version 10.4.3. If a camera works in PhotoBooth, iChat or FaceTime out of the box, then it is most likely UVC compliant. Most new USB cameras are UVC devices.
Non-UVC Cameras
Debut is able to support some non-UVC cameras using an open-source driver named macam. A list of cameras supported by macam is available at http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/cameras/index.php.
To use a non-UVC camera in Debut:
- Download the latest macam disk image from http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/downloads.html.
- Double click the dmg file (e.g., macam.0.9.2.dmg) to see the contents in Finder.
- Launch Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities) and run the following command:
- Enter the administrator password when prompted.
- Quit Debut if it's already running.
- Connect the camera, launch Debut and press the Device toolbar button. The non-UVC camera should be automatically used if there are no other connected devices. Otherwise, it can be selected in Preferences -> Devices.
Video Capture Devices
Some USB video capture devices, such as the SIIG USB Video/Audio Capture Device (http://www.altoedge.com/video/siig-video-capture2.html), can be used in Debut. Third-party software is usually needed to make them work. For example, VideoGlide (http://www.echofx.com/videoglide.html).
Please see Using the SIIG USB Video Capture Device for details.
FireWire Cameras
Cameras with a FireWire interface, such as DV cameras or Apple's iSight, can work in Debut. If a Firewire connected camera works in Photobooth, iChat or FaceTime then it should work in Debut just like a regular built-in or USB camera.
